Pedro Acosta Calls 2025 a “Wasted Year” Despite Major Step Forward

The 2025 MotoGP Championship has been the best result of Pedro Acosta’s career. Although he has had his best results so far, Acosta hasn’t celebrated. Acosta has called the 2025 MotoGP season a “waste of time” and expressed frustration that he didn’t see the same amount of growth measurable by his results as he has demonstrated on the track in terms of personal growth as a rider.

In his 2nd season in the premier class, Acosta improved immensely from his rookie year, becoming a much better-rounded, more complete rider. Acosta’s crashes that plagued him during his rookie year were virtually eliminated, leaving behind only consistency and calmness as a part of his character along with a better understanding of how to race.

Acosta had successfully achieved five grand prix podiums and seven sprint podiums throughout the season. By doing so, Acosta narrowly defeated Ducati Rider Francesco Bagnaia by a mere 4 points for the 4th position in the Championship, thus achieving a historic 4th place finish in the championship standings for a KTM rider.

Even so, that absence of a defining victory looms large over everything. Both Fermin Aldeguer and Raul Fernandez have recently taken their initial wins, whereas, at the same time, Acosta has continued to wonder what further he needed to do in order to achieve that level of success. The challenging early part of 2025 for KTM, primarily a result of their financial issues, has not helped. However, the arrival of a crucial aero update prior to the Austrian GP has created a complete turnaround, with Acosta accumulating 183 of his 308 points in the last ten GP weekends.

Even with this renewed sense of optimism, Acosta remains dissatisfied. Acosta states that he did not join KTM’s factory team for the same purpose as his current position of fourth place: he wants to compete for wins and titles. Nonetheless, he understands that there was long-term benefit from this season’s experience. Acosta feels that the experience has allowed him to develop into a more disciplined, mentally strong person who will be more ready when the moment arises for him to fight at the front against others in the future.

As the MotoGP prepares to head into the 2026 season and the new racing regulations that will take effect beginning in 2027, Acosta feels confident that he will have the opportunity to ride for the ultimate goal of winning.
