Formula E in Sao Paulo 2025: FP1 cancelled due to technical issues with radio communications
Formula E is back from its season break! However, the FP1 session did not take place as planned on Friday evening. According to information from e-Formula.news, there were problems with the radio communication, which is why the start of the session was postponed again and again and the session was finally cancelled completely. Whether FP1 will be made up tomorrow morning is questionable.
FP1 Session Delayed Multiple Times Before FIA Cancels It
After it was announced before the start of the session that the first free practice session could not start at 4:30 pm local time as originally planned, the start time was initially communicated as 5:00 pm. This was postponed three more times by 15 minutes each before the FIA finally announced, “Session cancelled.”
Radio Communication Issues Reported Ahead of Sao Paulo Session
Even before the session was originally scheduled to begin, e-Formula.news learned that there were problems with radio communication in Sao Paulo. According to unconfirmed reports, race control was unable to contact the marshals at the track. The exact cause was unclear, but the company responsible for radio communication in Formula E was working flat out to fix the problem.
FP1 Cancelled in Sao Paulo Due to Technical and Safety Concerns
However, this was not possible in the time available. Sunset in Sao Paulo was at 6:43 pm local time, so it simply became too dark to ensure sufficient safety for 40 minutes of free practice.
“FP1 has been cancelled due to technical difficulties with radio communications,” a statement issued by Formula E regarding the cancellation stated.
