Who will win the 2025 F1 drivers’ championship? Our writers have their say

The F1 2025 season has already posed another dilemma. Lando Norris took his sixth win in Mexico and, at the same time, seized the top spot in the championship standings just by one point.

Oscar Piastri has 356 points and is just a position behind him whereas Max Verstappen is in third place with 321 points. Three drivers just 36 points apart and there are still races to happen.

What The Numbers Tell Us Right Now

Here’s where things stand after Mexico:

  • Lando Norris leads with 357 points after his dominant pole-to-flag performance
  • Oscar Piastri holds 356 points despite finishing fifth and dropping from the top spot
  • Max Verstappen climbed to a podium finish on third with 321 points using an alternate tire approach
  • George Russell sits fourth with 258 points but remains mathematically alive

Our Crew Has Different Takes

We put this question to each and every member of the staff and got their predictions regarding which driver would be the ultimate champion after everything is settled. The responses demonstrate how very closely contested this season is.

The Case For Norris

The majority of our crew believes this could be the year of Lando. Lawrence Barretto made a bold claim of Norris holding back Leclerc and Verstappen for his first championship victory. Chris Medland too went on predicting the same with Norris steering the pack.

The McLaren racer at the Mexican GP illustrated it precisely with a composed and unperturbed drive from commencement to conclusion. His squad has the quickest vehicle right now and he definitely knows how to handle it.

Why Verstappen Can’t Be Counted Out?

James Hinchcliffe is of the opinion that Max will be the champion at the end. Although the three-time champion has been closing in fast on his rivals, his Red Bull still isn’t the best in terms of speed this year. He was able to take a position in the Mexican race where he started fifth and finished third.

Verstappen sounds more self-assured about his car than he did earlier in the season. Moreover, he has one advantage over the McLaren drivers – he won’t be losing points to a teammate like Norris and Piastri do, since he is the only one in his team scoring in case of team orders.

Piastri Could Surprise Everyone

David Tremayne ranked Oscar second in his selections. The kid Australian is the surprise of the season. Before Mexico, he was at the top of the standings and now he is just one point behind Norris.

His climb from ninth to fifth at Mexico demonstrated great racing skills. The downside is that his teammate is just as fast – they are always taking points from each other.

The McLaren Team Battle Changes Everything

This could be the most important factor in deciding the champion. McLaren has two racers competing for the same prize. Each time Piastri wins over Norris or vice versa they are making it easier for Verstappen to close the gap.

Red Bull does not face this problem as Verstappen’s partner is not in the title race. This could be a decisive factor in the remaining races.

What To Watch Through The Final Races

The next few weekends will decide this championship.

Here’s what matters most:

  • Can McLaren keep their speed edge while their drivers battle each other
  • Will Verstappen’s alternate strategies keep paying off like they did in Mexico
  • How many more podiums can Piastri grab to stay in touch
  • Whether anyone else sneaks in to steal points from the top three

Khelo24race has been following every development in this incredible season. The championship lead has changed hands multiple times and we’re not done yet.

Bottom Line On This Title Fight

No one has a clear idea who is finally going to win. Norris is in the lead in points with the quickest car. Verstappen is in the lead through his experience and by being the favorite. Piastri has already proved that he is worthy to be among the front runners. All of them are capable of being champions.

The race in Mexico was a clear indication that this fight for the title would last till the last moment. Norris raced like a real champion to be victorious in the race. Verstappen battled his way into a podium spot when his car didn’t even deserve one. Piastri went back to the face of a bad start and used it to his advantage.

That was a display of three champions-to-be in different manners on the same afternoon. Khelo24race will be there to cover every single moment as the season draws to a close. The crew might have different opinions on the champion but they all agree on one thing – it is going to be magnificent.
